Now is the time to be thinking of your spring garden. You will want to get your soil prepared and your Easy Home Garden Kit put together.
There's a few different kinds of gardens that you can start. One of them being a salsa garden. You can plant tomatoes, onion, cilantro, jalapenos and peppers. Another one being a herb garden, a salad garden or just the vegetables that your family prefers.
Its a great way to get your children involved. They love to eat what they plant!

By now your garden should be well established. Its not to late to plant melons, okra, peppers, squash and most of your herbs. You will want to start scalping down your lawn to burn out the winter rye. Summer annuals are coming in. Now is a good time to start planting them so they're well established by the time the hot summer days start. Its always a good time to use preemergence on your gravel area. We have a wide varieties to choose from. This will keep seeds from germinating in your rocks. We also have a wide variety of weed killer to control your weeds that have already pop out.

If you have not cut back your roses you will want to do it immediately!

Now is the time to also cut back your trees and shrubs that have been affected by the frost! You should also be fertilizing your trees, shrubs, citrus and lawns to get them looking good for the spring and summer. We carry a variety of tree and shrub food which is specifically made for the southwest area.

All of our vegetables and herbs are in and it's the perfect time to start your spring garden! We have a large varieties of annuals that are in! Fresh bedding coming in 3 times a week.

Spring is almost here, now is the time to get your garden soil prepared. Work in a good Mulch or Compost such as A&P Moisture Mulch, Harvest Supreme, Peat Moss, Manure or a combo of any of the above product with a 1/2 Mulch or Compost , 1/2 native soil mix along with bone meal and Gypsum. Bone Meal at the rate of 5 to 7 lbs per 100 square foot. Gypsum 40lbs per 250 square foot.
Blend altogether and you are ready to plant. If you have an existing garden refresh it with some new Mulch or Compost and bone meal and you are ready to plant.

If you want your winter rye to look vibrate green and lush then it is very important to be on a schedule with your fertilizing. You will want to fertilize your winter rye every 4-6 weeks depending on your soil conditions and watering habits. If your grass has a slight yellow look to it then its time to fertilize or cut back on your watering. People tend to over water their winter rye. You should only be watering it 2-3 times a week.

Now is the time you want to pre chill your bulbs. Narcissus, Crocus, Dwarf Iris, Tulips, Bearded Iris, Daffodils, Hyacinth and Muscari. Put bulbs in crisper in the refrigerator for 2-3 weeks so they get the false winter chill and then plant in warm soil.

Ranunculus bulbs will need to be soaked over night.

For the soil prep you will want to use a generous amount of organic materials such as Mulch or Bone Meal.

Fall Garden

Now is the time you want to start planting your fall garden. Beans, beets, tomato, zucchini, pepper, squash, cucumber, Swiss chard, lettuce, eggplant, celery, strawberries and herbs should be planted now.

As the weather becomes cooler in the next few weeks you will want to start your cold crop. You will want to plant cabbage, carrots, peas, broccoli, brussel sprouts, butternut squash, acorn squash, radish and cauliflower.

If your limited on time and space you can still enjoy a Fresh garden. With the Easy Home Garden Kit you can plant a garden in as little as 30 minutes and with a space as little as 38"x38".

Getting Ready for Rye

Let's get your yard ready this weekend to plant Rye grass next weekend. Scalp your yard as low as your mower will go. If your seed can not get to the ground you will need to dethatch (meaning you would need to rent a dethatcher to remove excess grass,) so the seed can get to the soil to access nutrients to make your lawn healthier and greener.

Planting

You will want to start planting your Rye grass mid-September- October (weather permitting). A pound will cover 50-100 square foot depending on how thick you want your grass. You need to constantly keep your seed moist watering 3-5 times a day. A layer of mulch will help keep your soil moist between watering and New Lawn Starter will help with rooting.

Post Maintenance

You will need to water every 2-3 days depending on ground condition, fertilizing every 4-6 weeks and mowing regularly.

Summer Time!

Garden-Your garden should be setting fruit and veggies by now. It is not to late to plant you melons and orka. Continue to fertilize and water you garden.

Grass- Its hot, By now your perennial rye is burning out, cut down your rye as low as you can. Stop the water for a few day and de thatch if necessary. Then start your regular watering and fertilizing to your hybrid Bermuda and regular Bermuda. It won't be long before you have a lush summer lawn.

De Thatching- We de thatch our lawns to thin out the build up of dead grass and rooting in the lawn. This lets water and fertilizer penetrate the ground and creates a healthy green lawn.

Fertilize- Turf Royal 21-7-14 or Southwest Green Maker 18-0-6. The Green Maker also has sulfur iron and trace elements.

Watering- Depending on your soil condition water every morning to every third morning. Make sure you water in the a.m. If you water in the p.m. you have a chance of fungus or other disease.

Weeds- Yikes, they're here! Don't let these pest get out of hand, kill them at the root when they are small. For your yard you will need to bring in a small sample and we will suggest the right product to get rid of the problem. We carry a variety of weed killer that you can use in the lawn the keep the weeds out and the grass looking good.
For your rock we will suggest a product that will be a contact killer that will also kill plants and root, this too will depend on the area you need to cover.

Pre-emergent- Let's get the pre-emergent down to kill seeds that will sprout in to weeds. We have a huge variety of pre-emergents depending on the area you need to cover.

It’s a great time to start planting your vegetable or flower garden. The important thing about starting a garden is ground preparation.
